1999 marque un véritable tournant pour la Trilogie du samedi, qui embrasse à fond le fantastique feuilletonnant tout en gardant un socle de thrillers et de séries d’action. C’est l’année de l’arrivée de la première saison de Charmed, qui installe définitivement la figure du trio féminin magique au cœur de la case, en miroir de la montée en puissance des héroïnes de genre à la fin des années 90. Buffy contre les vampires occupe plus que jamais le terrain avec la rediffusion des saisons 1 et 2, mais aussi la diffusion de la saison 3, transformant Sunnydale en rendez-vous hebdo incontournable pour les ados et jeunes adultes. En parallèle, les saisons 2 et 3 de Profiler et de Le Caméléon continuent de tisser un versant plus sombre et psychologique, entre tueurs en série, faux-semblants et identités multiples. La Trilogie s’enrichit aussi de nouvelles franchises avec l’arrivée de Highlander : L’immortelle et C-16, qui apportent leur dose de mythologie immortelle, d’enquêtes fédérales et d’adrénaline. Enfin, la saison 3 de The Sentinel prolonge le versant action policière à super-sens, complétant un millésime 1999 ultra dense, où se croisent sorcières, Tueuse de vampires, immortels, agents fédéraux et justicier aux cinq sens décuplés dans un même écrin du samedi soir.
